UPS Supply Chain Solutions has been recognized as the trade transport company with the best supply chain security regime in Asia at the Supply Chain Asia Logistics Awards (SCALA) sponsored by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.
UPS won the award, which has been sponsored by LRQA since its inception, despite stiff competition from premium global operators such as TNT, Kuehne & Nagel, DHL Global Forwarding and Maersk Logistics.
“Putting the systems in place to secure the supply chain is less and less being seen by industry leaders as a cost centre and more as a business necessity. Aside from the obvious security benefits, the process requires a comprehensive evaluation that gives operators a better understanding of their supply chains, which drives efficiency gains,” said Paul Phyall, Senior Vice-President LRQA. “We think that is a key reason why our certification services against the ISO28000 standard are really gaining momentum.”
The criteria for the SCALA for supply chain security required the winner to have implemented a customised security policy; displayed evidence that the policy is fully supported by top management and that it is uniformly applied across the organisation -- covering people, property and information; adhered to a best-practice security management system, such as C-TPAT, ISO28000 or the WCO’s Authorised Economic Operator and; proof of regular audits and reviews of security policy, and evidence of regular adjustments and improvements.
